Beginning January 1, the Punxsutawney Memorial Library is going late-fine-free! This does not mean that we are not charging any fees at all, it simply means that late fines will not be charged on patron accounts. But, fine-free is not a license to keep materials until the end of time. We expect materials to be returned on time, we are just not penalizing patrons if they are a few days late. If an item is not returned within 30 days of the due date, we will assume the item is not going to be returned and the cost of replacement + a $5.00 processing fee will be placed on the patron account. However, if that item is returned, in usable condition, within 90 days of the return date, we will waive the replacement cost, but the patron will still owe the Library a $5.00 processing fee. On January 1st, we will waive all past late fees on patron accounts. However, items that have not been returned are still on patron accounts and the expectation is that the item is either returned, in useable condition, or the patron pays for replacement.
